Following a rainy day in Biarritz, a sodden wind-swept beach and little else to entertain us, my friends and I spent the day playing Texas Hold'em Poker in our rented apartment. With three girls and four boys sharing a small two bedroom apartment it soon became rather stuffy. The escape? A trip down in the Trusty Fiat to La Casino Barriere, on the seafront in Biarritz.
The casino is newly refurbished, and retains much of the splendour of the original Biarritz casino (opened August 10, 1901). Slots downstairs, and a more formal, though still relatively casual, area for table games upstairs. Jeans and smart shirts are perfectly acceptable attire.

The lady made the single most common error. Every spin of the wheel she literally covered almost every number, in a combination of chips. OK - so she won every spin, but she lost out overall. This crazy technique can never work .
After paying her tips to the croupier she was down 10-15% on every single spin.
This brought home to me the futility of roulette without following a good system. Best tactic is to select the system, draw it out and follow it to the letter. Enjoy the play, and take any losses as the cost of the pleasure you get from the game.
In summary, if you are in a casino purely to make money. Stop! In the long run the house will win. Treat the casino as an interesting diversion, as entertainment to pass an hour or two. Enjoy the atmosphere, the sophistication, the eclectic mix of people plucked by their genes from the wealthier corners of the world.
Treat a casino not as your bank but as your entertainment and you will walk away happier, if not richer.
